OUR

STORY

Sebastian was a healthy, curious, and playful boy, full of energy and dreams. At age 11, small but noticeable changes began to appear; tasks like holding a cup, writing with a pencil, or keeping his balance became increasingly difficult. These subtle signs led to a life-changing diagnosis: Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 2 (SCA2), a rare, progressive, and degenerative neurological condition.

Since his diagnosis in 2020, Sebastian has gradually lost many of his motor skills. Today, he uses a wheelchair full-time and requires assistance with daily activities such as dressing, eating, and moving around. Though he now faces the advanced stage of his condition, his courage, joy, and unwavering hope remain unshaken.

From this journey of love, resilience, and faith, Sebastian’s Hope Foundation was born. Created in Sebastian’s honor, the Foundation reflects his family’s determination to transform pain into purpose. Despite the challenges and uncertainties of the future, Karinna and Sergio chose to embrace life one day at a time, learning, loving, and experiencing it in new and profound ways.

Through advocacy, family support, and research funding, Sebastian’s Hope Foundation exists to remind families facing SCA2 and other rare diseases that they are not alone. Even in the face of adversity, there is space for connection, dignity, and hope.

Together, We Carry Hearts on Wheels

At the heart of Sebastian’s Hope Foundation is Sebastian himself, a vibrant soul with a love for the ocean, an endless curiosity for the world, and a spark for adventure that lights up every room he enters. Whether he’s dreaming about marine life, imagining his next great journey, or sharing laughter with those he loves, Sebastian’s spirit radiates joy and resilience.

His journey is the heartbeat of our mission. Sebastian reminds us each day that even in life’s most difficult moments, there is space for hope, purpose, and connection. His story is not only about living with SCA2, but about redefining what it means to live fully, love deeply, and inspire others with courage and grace.
